International Mechanical Code (IMC)
The International Mechanical Code (IMC) is one of the International Codes (I-Codes) developed and published by the International Code Council (ICC) through an open, governmental consensus process. It sets minimum regulations for mechanical systems, covering heating, ventilation, air conditioning, exhaust systems, ductwork, combustion air, refrigeration, and equipment safety. Updated on a three-year cycle, the IMC is designed to coordinate with the other I-Codes such as the IBC and IRC. It is in use or adopted in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and several U.S. territories, serving as the basis for mechanical regulation across much of the country.
