International Plumbing Code

The International Plumbing Code (IPC) is a model code developed and published by the International Code Council (ICC) to regulate the design and installation of plumbing systems in buildings. It addresses water supply and distribution, sanitary drainage, vents, fixtures, water heaters, and non-potable water systems such as graywater and rainwater harvesting. The code is developed through a governmental consensus process involving public safety officials, contractors, manufacturers, standards organizations, academia, and consumers, and is updated on a three-year cycle, with the 2024 edition being the most recent. The IPC is widely adopted across the United States as a basis for plumbing regulation by state and local jurisdictions.
